$6 was 3 hours pay in 1975, when l first started working. Minimum wage was $1.95 an hour.

$6 US would have been more than enough to fill up most gas tanks in 1970. Gasoline was 23.9-26.9 cents/gal in Milwaukee then. In the early 70 is it suddenly doubled. While coming back from Florida my dad pulled into an Indiana gas station & when he saw it was 52.9 said '' l do not need gas that bad & pulled out to find a different station.

It was still somewhere in that price range when l started working full time in 1975. l had a 1971 Mercedes 220D company car & diesel fuel was 49.9. Those were economy cars then 32 mpg city or hwy with manual steering & a 4 on the floor.

Somewhere around 1970 l made $2.00-$2.20/hr working 45 hr weeks for 47.5 hrs pay during summers. For several years until 1975 l made $3.25/hr part time for a well driller while in college. l was paying $675 a semester for engineering school at Marquette University after deducting $325 for W l state tuition grant & $100 multiple student discount.
