I am looking at buying a jeep. l have 12,000 dollars and the going price seems to be around 13,000 to 14,000 dollars. l offer the dealerships what l got and they all say no because the cost of tax and license is almost 2000 dollars here in California. l heard that there is no sales tax for vehicles bought in Nevada though. There is also more available vehicles in Nevada. So l was thinking about buying a car there and bringing to California and having it registered. Does anyone know how much that will cost me. The Jeep would not be able to be registered as a new vehicle in California. You would have to register it in Nevada and have a Nevada address.After a certain amount of time you could transfer it to California as a used car.
These rules were made by both States to prevent people from doing exactly what you are thinking of doing.

The taxes you pay are based on where you live, or register the car, and not where your purchase the car.
Therefore, it does not matter where you buy the car, you will still have to pay California taxes.

You will need to pay taxes when you register the car in California.
Unless you plan on moving to Nevada before you purchase it, then there is no way around this one.

Buy locally. It will be easier and helps support your local economy.

No matter where u buy it, to register it in CA u will have to pay CA tax & license fees, which u already know r almost $2 grand. Add to that u may not even be able to register it it CA when u bring in back, due to CA rules:

These vehicles (49-State) r made with smog equipment that meets federal emission standards, but not California standards. 50-State or California certified vehicles r made to be sold to California residents.

What Is Considered a New Vehicle?
California law considers any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer when acquired by a California resident or business to be a new vehicle. This holds true whether or not the vehicle has been registered in another state. If u acquire a new vehicle from another state, u may not subsequently drive it to accumulate over 7,500 miles to circumvent the law. DMV cannot accept an application to register the vehicle, & u cannot register or operate the vehicle in California.

you are forgetting the emissions money. Calf will charge you at registration for the emissions, as your nevada jeep will not pass in Cal.
