I am a new driver and I am looking to buy a car that will last me through college....I am a junior in high school right now. l only have $2,800.What do l look for in a car?How old, how many miles should it have on it?How many MPG is good?Any tips would be greatly appreciated.What types of cars should l stay away from?What are the best?

l think your best bet would be a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry.
With that kind of money you would be looking at a 2000 or so with around 90,000 miles on it. These 2 cars, (when taken care of) are your best bet. Try to buy from someone you know or have a friend with some mechanical experience look at it for you. Brakes, triers, rust, condition of oil, noises, how does it run down the highway (etc)

two words: honda civic. 1994-2000 is good for that kind of money. cheap to insure, amazing mileage and reliability.

as far as american (ford, chevy, dodge, etc), do not buy anything made before 2004. seriously.

aim for less than 80,000 miles, check the carfax, have it inspected, and enjoy.
