im unhappy with my car ive had a 1988 suzuki samurai a 1997 ford ranger and now my 2000 nissan maxima all within 7 months l want a new car. l have a part time min wage job but l do not have anyone who will finance me or will cosign for me when l turn 18 my dad has perfect credit but wont help me. im tired of putting money into cars l hate. what do l do?

You should probably go to your bank or credit union, whichever you have. Sit down with a loan officer and talk to them. Explain what you're trying to accomplish. Ask for advice and assistance to reach your goal.
They will be able to tell you exactly what you will need to do, and help you set up a plan to do it. The best thing about that is once you've done what you needed to do, they are more than happy to help you get the financing approved.

But l can teach u how to get the best deal & convince ur father to cosign for you. And if u explain to ur father the things that l tell you. u will sound like u know what you're talking about..

You have two options..

1. Come up with a large down payment so that you're financing only a small amount & show ur dad that u can easily handle payments that r going to be between $100-$200 a month

2. Get rid of any cars u have right now (sell on craigslist) & buy yourself a cheap $3000 Honda Civic for the moment & stick with that for a while.

l know that feeling! Here is the problem, ur not old enough to sign a loan yet. ( l am sure u know this)

Here is what the bank will see in 8 months, providing ur situation wo not change. Estimated Gross Annual Income: $6500.00 (That is $6.50/hr for 20hrs. a week, 50 weeks a year.) Your automotive budget should be no more than 20% of ur gross annual income. So that would be $1300. Multiply that by 5 years for $6500 total loan amount INCLUDING interest. A bank would not take that kind of risk on a young adult just starting.

What u need to do is change ur situation! It would be a good idea to stay at ur current job to show some stability & look for another source of income (additional job, start a business, etc.) Also, if u qualify, u should ask for a pay evaluation at ur current job. The worst they can say is no!

And lastly, you're about out of school, take the time to evaluate the true, lasting importance of paying on a new car versus owning ur current car. You r going to have a lot of changes in the next few years & sometimes, owning that ol' clunker sure beats having to figure out whether you're gonna eat or pay for the car..Besides, a new machine breaks too! And usually the warranty does not last the life of the loan. Then u may be fixing the car AND paying for the car.That would really suck!

So, my advise is, get to know ur friends in the auto industry (parts people, mechanics, people who like Nissan's) These people can help u when u need it & u will save money in the end!

Buy a car u like that u can pay with cash. That is the ONLY solution available to you. You will not be able to finance a car when u turn 18. Regardless of what others may tell you, it wo not happen.

Here is the cold facts you're facing. We're in the worst credit crisis ever since The Great Depression. Banks & subprime lenders r going under faster than the Titanic. In order to finance a new or used car, u must have solid credit. That means for a first time buyer like you, at least 2 years credit history on all three credit bureaus, at least 1 year at the same job, at least $2000/mth salary & a credit card with a high limit of $3000 that is in good standing. Plus ur monthly debt-to-income ratio cannot be more than 34%. And that wo not change for at least another 18 months.

There r a lot of people living in a dream world right now. They believe that lenders r dying to approve loans & so r car dealers. Well, car dealers do want to sell more cars but unless their customers fit these guidelines, their lenders will not even consider their applications. These r the directives the lenders have sent to the dealers this week.

Anyone who tells u u can get financed without a cosigner as soon as u turn 18 is totally clueless of the facts. And they obviously do not work in the auto business.

It is really bad news. But it is the reality of today is economy.

You can be picky when you can pay all your own bills on your own, though!
